THE MISSION
As the founder, I am conscious in taking diligent steps for Lyán the Label to create distinctive and affordable handbags that harmonise elegance with practicality. Each piece is thoughtfully made in small batches to minimise production waste, using responsibly sourced materials and put together by our SMETA and ISO-audited manufacturer. I am committed to providing affordable luxury which embraces sustainable style - both in your wardrobe and in the world around us.
A LITTLE NOD
'Lyán' (roughly pronounced as 'lee-yan') was chosen as the brand's name, being a stylised twist to my middle name (Lee Lian). It is a simple homage to my Chinese heritage and the legacy of the powerful women and loved ones who have shaped my journey. Meaning 'lotus flower' in Mandarin Chinese, it is a renowned symbol of purity, and resilience despite adversity. I consider it a tribute to those who show lovingkindness and grace to others, while finding the balance between strength and tenderness. My faith has been so integral to renewing these habits again and again daily.
I reference my cultural roots through the octagonal patterned stitching of our bags - the 'bagua' shape often used in Chinese culture and feng shui, signifying interconnectedness between all things, just as we lean on each other for wisdom, guidance and support.
